It's a typical New York scene, a lady with dark outfit crosses Mercer Street in downtown Manhattan, I was impressed by colors of the winter, especially from the trees..
Let's change subject a little, I had a little trouble judging Janauary Bold Brush art contest, because when I got down to top 100 painting among more than 1500 entries, first I thought all these 100 people are winners pretty much, it's very difficult process to choose final 12 paintings. I mean all these artist has different style and seem to have their own world going on. So when winners are chosed by a judge, I think it also something to do with personal taste as well as technical and artist impression. And I do believe some artist gets unlucky enough never able to win for a long time, so what I am suggesting is that artists should not be discouraged by certain art competition,
rather think as partial opportunity, and any artist who wins or lose could become great artist eventually.
I personally was very much surprised by a lot of artist able to establish their own world...yes, same subject matter with many many different style.. My purpose of painting is very simple, making a poetry out of our daily life, but the process could be very complex and sometimes I do get into trouble..

I used to walk around village of Northshore to get inspired by something or for meditational purpose. Here is the sun going toward sunset almost finishing a day, it was worth to watch, because the color gave me some impact, all I saw that day was yellow and purple color together, it was so quick that makes almost impossible to achieve plein air sketch attempt, so basically I am painting from memories of the color, remebering the goegeous color of the moment.
First, I am not an plein air artist. I am an plein air inspired artist, so I am just an artist in general. Sometimes I try to learn from our nature but a lot of times I am just an artist looking for poetic colors or meaning ful moment from our lifestyle, I am not just landscape artist either, I think I am an artist looking for something very positive stage that has ultimate power, but the power does not come with bold brush stroke or color only, that comes with experience and philosophy I think.
The reason why I brought this is that even a landscape painting is not just copy of nature or plein air style itself, it represent ourself. And what we see and what want to see is two different thing.

Here we go again, we have brutally cold winter here in New York city, snow is falling every week from the sky, and I have trouble getting rid of all these pile of snow and my drive way is always the place the most accumulated and coldest place on earth. I physically had to prepare for removing all these snows and ice, I have tons of thing to complain..
But I still feels the fresh impact of the first snow this season in Manhattan, NY. This lady was quickly passing by me from streets of Mid-town Broadway, New York. Her face was a little bit redish by cold temprature, and then, I thought "oh, this is good" I seem to get a lot of inspirations by people walking by, they walk really fast and disappears quickly, but I am determined to create something meaningful from our ordinary life.
The warmth is coming out of these people along with shops filled with lights, yellow taxes...
